EGG DONORS

Your doctor tells you that you need an egg donor. What do you do? First, take a deep breath. Take the time to learn about egg donation and ivf. To begin, it is important to know that it is perfectly normal to be sad if we loose our genetic connection to our future child.

Sometimes counsellor sessions can help sort out our complicated feelings. Remember that regardless of donor oocyte use, the child will be yours and your partner's (if you have one). The child is special and unique to your own family, and it would not come into this world if it was not for the love that you are prepared to give it. It is also important to emphasize the fact that you should be ready to love, honour and cherish this child regardless of eye colour, hair colour, size or other physical characteristics.

Greek law states that egg donors need to be anonymous. The majority of prospective parents request an egg donor who matches their own characteristics so that the baby "looks like mom and dad." Medical and psychological tests are necessary for the donor. The features you wish your donor to have are unique to you according to your priorities and your personal choices. The donor knows nothing about the recipient parent.

Greek law also states that donors should be very young, they must be 20-30 years old. They must be mentally and psychologically healthy. They must also be quite slim; extra weight can affect the quality of oocytes. Eggdonors should have a regular menstrual cycle and they should have their own child by natural conception. At the end of the day, we believe that the child you have through this process is the child that you are supposed to have, and will be the most amazing, beautiful, perfect child you've ever laid your eyes on.
